Last year, the Practical Rimfire Challenge (PRC) was launched by the folks at Peacemaker National Training Center in Glengary, WV. This new discipline was designed to bring a new challenge to the table―a complex, precision rimfire game that marries the latest tech with shooter skill and accuracy. Now for this year, Lapua has stepped up to the plate to support the fledgling new sport―the company will be the 2018 PRC Series Title Sponsor.

Firing at distances as far as 300 yards with .22LR rifles, PRC matches are essentially a rimfire version of Precision Rifle Series (PRS) competition. Rifles can be either bolt-action or semi-auto. Each stage of a PRC competition presents a different shooting scenario that utilizes multiple shooting positions and equipment. These matches usually have nine stages. Targets utilized are different combinations of steel and reactive targets (such as LightReact target indicating systems). Although single-shot rifles are allowed, they can put shooters at a disadvantage. This is not a benchrest or prone type of match―shooters should be prepared for some movement and to use improvised positions.

PRC shooters are divided into three divisions: bolt-action, semi-auto and junior. No pistols are required, and suppressors are permitted.

Lapua’s innovative .22LR cartridges should prove ideal for PRC competition. Adam Braverman, director of sales and marketing for the Capstone Precision Group (parent company of Lapua) said:

“Lapua is very excited to partner with the Practical Rimfire Challenge Series. We view this new occasion as a showcase opportunity to highlight the Lapua and SK rimfire product range, and to demonstrate how well they fit this new shooting discipline.”

The 2018 PRC Series will have four individual events beginning this March, and the Series Finale in November. Each match, including the Finale, will be taking place at Peacemaker. Match dates are March 31, May 19, June 9, and September 1. The Season Finale will be held on November 3.

Braverman concluded, “Shooters of all levels will be able to find suitable and affordable Lapua and SK ammunition to meet their competitive needs.”
