Federal Ammunition sponsored shooter Derrick Mein captured the top spot in the Men’s Trap event at the XIV Confederation of the Americas (CAT) Championships held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The competition, which began February 29 and will run through March 9, serves as an Olympic qualification event and has more than 100 competitors from 16 nations in attendance.

Mein, a former Olympian, qualified for the final in the Men’s Trap in the second position with a score of 120, two points behind the front runner, Hebert Brol from Guatemala.

In the final, Mein missed a few early targets before running forty-five straight to win Men’s Trap gold over the Dominican Republic’s Eduardo Jose Lorenzo. Mein’s final score was 47, three points ahead of Lorenzo, the Men’s Trap event runner-up and silver medalist.

Since Mein had already qualified the United States for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Lorenzo claimed the quota spot for his home country.

Additionally, Derrick Mein and two U.S. teammates—Ramsey Bodeen and Matthew Killeen—combined to capture a bronze medal in the Men’s Team Trap event during the competition.
