We've covered the new Walther Q5 Steel Frame (SF) extensively since its big reveal, and with good reason—by all accounts this new pistol is certain to be a big success in the action shooting community. Now, we finally have some video to show you this new striker-fired, stainless steel competition beauty in person. Watch the video above, fresh from SHOT Show 2019's Industry Day at the Range. Featuring Team Walther's Gabby Franco and sister publication Shooting Illustrated's Managing Editor Jay Grazio.
Designed to be range-ready out of the box, the 9mm Q5 Steel Frame weighs 42 ounces. Since its both optics- and race-ready, this handgun can be quite versatile. Additionally, Walther engineers did a bang-up job of making sure this Q5 is balanced. The magwell is removable. This keeps the gun legal within USPSA Production and Carry Optics rules. The plus-2 basepads that come with the three supplied 15-round magazines also make this package attractive to competitive shooters.
The slide has lightening holes, along with wide serrations which make the Q5 Steel Frame to manipulate when loading. Shooters will appreciate the weight of the slide, which is important when adding an optic.
Essentially, the Walther Q5 Match SF offers all the features competitive shooters loved from the company's original Q5 Match, which was designed to be match-ready for action shooting competition.
The Walther Q5 Steel Frame uses the same great trigger that the polymer line of PPQs is known and loved for. USPSA's Jake Martens says in his review of the Q5 Steel Frame, "The gun sits in the hand like it was made to be there and shoots extremely flat. It is very well balanced and the sights return very quickly with each follow-up shot."
