Check-Mate has added Jessie Harrison to its professional shooting team, and the pistol champion will compete with the Georgia manufacturer’s magazines going forward.
Harrison needs little introduction to anyone who has shot a major action pistol match in the last two decades. She was the first woman to classify as Grand Master in USPSA, and her record spans five disciplines with more than 100 world and national titles, including wins at the Bianchi Cup and the Steel Challenge World Speed Shooting Championships. She rejoined the Taurus shooting team in 2025, and also shoots for Hornady.
What she signed on to promote is the least glamorous component on a competition gun.
“Mags are one of the most understated pieces of equipment but are one of the most important,” Harrison said in the announcement. Every competitor who has eaten a stage on a failure to feed knows the arithmetic behind that. A magazine that drops a round, hangs a follower or refuses to seat costs the same time whether the shooter is a C-class club regular or on a factory payroll, and no amount of trigger time buys it back.
Check-Mate has been making them in the United States since 1972, out of plants in New York and Georgia, with the company putting its lifetime output north of 100 million units. Much of that volume goes out the door as OEM and contract work rather than under the Check-Mate name, which is why the brand is better known to armorers and gunsmiths than to the general shooting public.
“Jessie has built her career on precision, consistency and performing under pressure,” David Blenker, the chief business development officer at Check-Mate said. He described her as an ambassador for the sport both at matches and away from them.
