USA Shooting athletes earned 10 medals—including one gold—at the 2024 International Shooting Sport Federation Junior World Championships held in Lima, Peru, from September 26 to October 7.
More than 30 rifle, pistol and shotgun athletes competed at the 2024 ISSF Junior World Championships. Athletes qualified for the team through selections matches conducted earlier this year. Among the 10 medals earned by USA Shooting athletes is Braden Peiser’s gold in the men’s 50m rifle 3-position event, garnering him the 2024 Junior World Championship title.
“It is a bit surreal,” Peiser said about his big win. “I have been in a lot of finals and quite a few international finals. I was enjoying this final and the chase. It was fun sitting in second or third and knowing I had some work to do.”
This year’s competition is the fifth ISSF Junior World Championships that Peiser has competed in and his first individual gold medal. In addition, he earned bronze at this year’s competition in men’s 10m air rifle, as well as a silver medal in the men’s 10m air rifle team event.
Team USA also reached the podium in multiple team events this year. Five of the medals earned were in team events, including bronze in mixed team skeet, gold in men’s skeet team, bronze in women’s skeet team and silver in women’s 10m air rifle team.
Besides Peiser’s gold medal performance, individual medals were earned by Katie Zaun, who earned bronze in the women’s 10m air rifle event, Gracie Hensely with silver in women’s skeet and Benjamin Keller with silver in men’s skeet.
Keller, who hails from Johnstown, Colorado, has been racking up International Shooting Sport Federation World Championship medals over the last few years. He earned gold in men’s skeet at the 2022 and 2023 competitions. Keller, who is 19 years old, has more than 10 international medals and is looking to compete in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The world champion team athletes also made a handful of appearances in event finals. Griffin Lake of Emmaus, Pennsylvania, shot in the men’s 50m rifle 3-position final and finished in sixth place. Additionally, Tyler Wee, of Wake Forest, North Carolina, joined Lake in the final and was ranked eighth on the leaderboard.
Karsyn Ross of Seguin, Texas, and Madeline Corbin of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, both advanced to the women’s skeet final where they placed sixth and fifth, respectively. Plus, Keller, along with Fayth Layne of Columbia, Tennessee, competed in the mixed skeet team bronze medal match and took fourth place.
Emme Walrath of Kenosha, Wisconsin, made an appearance in the women’s 50m rifle 3-position final and landed in fourth place.
