U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Nick Mowrer, a two-time Olympian, is the 2024 NRA National Smallbore Prone champion after walking away from the match at Camp Atterbury with a score of 6395-550X.
The 2024 NRA National Smallbore Prone Championship was held at Camp Atterbury, Indiana, from July 28 to August 1, as part of this year’s NRA National Matches.
Behind Mowrer in the Smallbore Prone aggregate by only one point was runner-up Shane Barnhart of Cardington, Ohio, with a score of 6394-525X. Barnhart won the Prone title at Camp Atterbury last year, but his score this year was three points ahead of his 2023 score.
In addition, Mowrer and Barnhart both set 50-yard any sight national records at the NRA National Smallbore Rifle Prone Championships at Camp Atterbury. Mowrer set the record for service and Barnhart for military veteran.
In third place was Stephen R. Angeli of Hershey, Pennsylvania, with a score of 6394-507X. His score also landed him the High Senior award.
High Woman went to Deena Wigger of Colorado Springs, Colorado, with a score of 6393-491X.
The High Collegiate shooter was Megan Hilbish of Emporia, Kansas, with a score of 6385-463X.
Mowrer also took the Smallbore Prone Any Sights aggregate title with a score of 3199-295X.
As for the Smallbore Prone Metallic Sights aggregate, the title went to Angeli with a score of 3198-267X.
There were 49 entries in this year’s NRA National Smallbore Conventional Prone Championship aggregate.
In addition, Ruger—the NRA Competitive Shooting Division’s Main Sponsor and Title Sponsor of the 2024 NRA National Matches—generously donated 15 firearms to the competitors’ prize tables at the 2024 NRA National Matches.
