Team USA’s Sagen Maddalena will compete in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle final at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Monday, July 29. She advanced to the eight-shooter final after placing seventh in qualification on Sunday, July 28.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games Women’s 10m Air Rifle event is held at the Chateauroux Shooting Center, which is about a three-hour drive south of Paris. The event’s final will be conducted at the Chateauroux Final Range beginning at 9:30 a.m. (Paris time) on Monday.

In the Women’s 10m Air Rifle event qualification, Maddalena fired a score of 631.4, which was only 3.1 points behind the top shooter in qualification, Ban Hyojin of Korea. The latter also broke the Olympic record score in this event for the qualifying round after posting a score of 632.9. The previous record was set by Jeanette Hegg Duestad of Norway at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The course of fire for the Women’s 10m Air Rifle event at the Olympics consists of 60 shots in 75 minutes. The top eight athletes from qualification advance to the final, which has two series of five shots each in 250 seconds per series, along with 14 single shots (each fired in 50 seconds) for a total of 24 shots.

Maddalena’s best shot in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle event qualification round was a 10.8, which she fired during the fifth series of 10 shots. She also posted 10.7 scores in the first, fourth, fifth and sixth series.

Scoring in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle final is done with 10-ring (decimal) scoring for the target concerned. In addition, the lowest ranking finalist is eliminated after 12 shots, continuing after every two shots, until the top two shooters are decided on shot number 24.

Earlier this year, Maddalena picked up four medals—including three golds—at the CAT Games in the following events: gold in Women’s 50m Smallbore Rifle, Women’s 10m Air Rifle and Women’s 50m Rifle Prone, along with a silver medal with teammate Ivan Roe in Mixed Team Air Rifle.

Maddalena serves in the U.S. Army and is a sergeant in the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit.

Also competing for Team USA in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle event was Mary Tucker, who walked away from the match with a score of 625.2, good for 32nd place.
