U.S. shooter Katelyn Abeln earned eighth place in the Paris 2024 Olympics Women’s 25m Pistol final at the Chateauroux Shooting Center on Saturday, August 3.
She qualified for today’s final after exiting the Women’s 25m Pistol qualification round held yesterday ranked in eight place with a score of 585-19X. The top eight athletes from qualification advance to the final.
Abeln walked away from the Women’s 25m Pistol final with a score of five.
The format for the Women’s 25m Pistol event at the Olympics starts with 10, five-shot rapid fire series. All points are hit or miss. Elimination of the lowest scoring shooters begins after the fourth series, and continues until the 10th series, when the gold and silver medalists are decided. The hit zone is the zone with a value of 10.2 points or above.
Abeln was the first shooter eliminated after the fourth series, where she scored zero. Her scores in the previous three series were one, two and two, giving her a total score of five.
Winning the Women’s 25m Pistol event gold medal this year at the Paris 2024 Olympics was Jiin Yang of South Korea after prevailing in the shoot-off against Camille Jedrzejewski of France. Yang went four for five in the shoot-off, while Jedrzejewski went zero for five, which netted her the silver medal. The bronze medalist was Veronika Major of Hungary with a final score of 31.
