The 2023 NRA National Matches at Camp Atterbury kicked off on Monday, July 22, with the First Shot ceremony and the start of the NRA National Precision Pistol Championships. Now in its fourth year at Camp Atterbury, a National Guard training facility in Indiana located about 37 miles south of Indianapolis, the 2024 NRA National Matches will continue until the close of the NRA National High Power Long-Range Championships on Monday, August 19.
During the opening ceremony at Camp Atterbury today, NRA Board Member Charlie Hiltunen III served as the emcee, with Indiana Congressman Greg Pence giving the keynote address, and NRA Board Member and Indiana State Representative Craig Haggard providing remarks and firing the ceremonial first shot. In addition, Haggard’s wife, Brooke, sang the National Anthem at the opening ceremony.
Pence is the U.S. representative for Indiana’s sixth congressional district and lives in Columbus, Indiana, which is located about 14 miles from Camp Atterbury.
“Camp Atterbury is in my district,” Pence said. “[As a representative in Congress], I plan to maintain the support and advocacy for the Second Amendment, as well as for the NRA.”
At the 2024 NRA National Matches opening ceremony, all in attendance had an opportunity to try out NRA America’s Rifle Challenge stages for free. Title Sponsor Ruger provided its PC pistol-caliber carbines and ammo, while Vortex supplied the red-dot optics. Competitors, Boy Scouts, Indiana residents and NRA Board Members all took advantage of this opportunity to shoot NRA America’s Rifle Challenge at Camp Atterbury.
Immediately following the 2024 NRA National Matches opening ceremony was the practice session for the NRA National Precision Pistol Championships. This year’s NRA National Precision Pistol Championships kicked off today and will conclude on Thursday, July 25.
