Team Savage shooter Matt Alwine took first place overall, as well as the top spot in open light, at the National Rifle League Hunter Series match win this past weekend in Cody, Wyoming. Located on Sheep Mountain, the NRL Hunter Series Gunwerks’ Sheep Mountain Shootout was June 9-11.
This particular venue put hunters to the test by challenging them to extreme angles and shots from 160 to 1,110 yards, all while facing the area’s difficult wind conditions and terrain. Alwine nabbed the top spots for Team Savage at the match by posting a score of 122 out of 128 possible points.
Alwine knocked out the competition using a Savage 110 action and AccuTrigger, an MDT HNT-26 Chassis “Mountain Forged Edition,” Leupold Mark 5HD 5-25x56 mm riflescope, Without Warning Tuner Muzzle Break, Proof Research barrel in 6.5 Creedmoor and MDT Cyke-Pod bipod.
As mentioned, this first ever Sheep Mountain Shootout was conducted in a beautiful Wyoming location. The competition setting was an open mountain terrain dotted with sage brush and conifers. Native wildlife includes Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep, Rocky Mountain Elk, Mule Deer, Antelope, Black Bear, Wolves, Coyotes and Prairie Dogs.
“We’re proud to have Savage Arms represented by great shooters like Matt Alwine at events like this,” Beth Shimanski, director of marketing at Savage Arms said. “Any NRL Hunter Series Match is a thrilling event, and the Gunwerks’ Sheep Mountain Shootout proved to be no different. We look forward to more success in the future, and congratulate all of Team Savage.”
