The NRA HQ Range in Fairfax, Va., recently landed the No. 2 spot on a list of the best indoor ranges in the Southeast. This accolade highlights the hard work of Range Manager Henry Sheard and NRA Range staff, who are dedicated to providing their customers the best possible experience.
Published to the Gunsmithing Club of America website, this top-five ranking of indoor ranges in the Southeast places the NRA Range between No. 3—Florida's Shooters World, and the top-ranked range in the Southeast—GlockStore Shoot270 in Nashville, Tennessee.
The author, Earl Roberts, is a retired Marine and owner of Mobile Marksmanship, a firearms safety training company located in Northern Virginia. As a firearms instructor, in his article he mentions that "traveling around and spending time on ranges is basically my daily job." To narrow the field for his list, Roberts only included ranges open to the public, along with what he calls a "destination theme," basically, something interesting to see before or after your visit, or to pass the time while you wait for your turn on the firing line.
Having the NRA National Firearms Museum only feet away from the NRA Range certainly gave it a leg up in the rankings. Says Roberts: "[Once] you’ve shot on the range, head upstairs to visit the National Firearms Museum where you’ll see more than 3,000 firearms spanning the entire history of firearms to include gun makers, prototypes, historic firearms, guns in America, guns at war, guns in Hollywood, oddities and much more!"
While not mentioned in the article, the ranges at the NRA Whittington Center are also worth seeking out if you are in the New Mexico area. This summer, the Silhouette Nationals are being fired there, and many other big shooting tournaments are conducted at the NRA Whittington Center each year.
