The National Rifle Association of America is pleased to announce the addition of two new national championships to the competitive shooting calendar for 2024, the NRA F-Class Fullbore Rifle Long-Range Nationals and the NRA F-Class Fullbore Rifle Mid-Range Nationals.
At its 2023 Winter Meeting, the NRA Board of Directors created a new standing committee for F-Class High Power Rifle, splitting F-Class High Power Rifle out from the old High Power Rifle Committee, where F-Class had resided since 2005.
The new F-Class High Power Rifle Committee met last year and drafted a new rulebook, setting the stage for separating the F-Class Fullbore Rifle National Championship from the sling (Palma) Fullbore Nationals.
This past January, the NRA Board of Directors adopted the new F-Class High Power Rifle rulebook and authorized the two new national championships.
Some background about Fullbore Rifle competition: An international competitive shooting discipline, Fullbore Rifle is governed at the international level by the International Confederation of Fullbore Rifle Associations, known simply as ICFRA. The National Rifle Association of America is one of 40 sanctioning members of ICFRA. Our American NRA Fullbore Rifle Rules are similar—but not completely identical—to ICFRA rules.
“Previously, the F-Class Fullbore Rifle Nationals were held in conjunction with the sling shooter’s Fullbore Rifle Nationals as a part of the Spirit of America Matches at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, New Mexico,” John C. Sigler, past NRA president and the current chairman of NRA’s F-Class High Power Rifle Committee said. “With the advent of the new F-Class Fullbore Rifle Nationals, NRA’s F-Class shooters will now compete using a completely different match configuration and completely different courses of fire, both of which are designed to more directly fulfill the needs and desires of America’s F-Class international Fullbore Rifle competitors.”
NRA F-Class Fullbore Rifle Long-Range Nationals
The new NRA F-Class Fullbore Rifle Long-Range National Championships will be held at the Colorado Rifle Club, which is about a one-hour drive east of Denver near Byers, Colorado, July 17-20, 2024.
The Long-Range course of fire for the three-day competition is below.
- Day One: Three 15-shot matches fired at 800 yards with two convertible sighters, plus a four-shooter team match at 800 yards.
- Day Two: Three 15-shot matches fired at 900 yards with two convertible sighters, plus a four-shooter team match at 900 yards.
- Day Three: Three 15-shot matches fired at 1,000 yards with two convertible sighters, plus a four-shooter team match at 1,000 yards.
There will be a practice/sight-in session on the day before the match. All individual competition will be fired either “pair-fire” (two shooters to a mound) or “Bisley-style” (three shooters to a mound). The term “Bisley-style” gets its name from the legendary range at Bisley, England.
NRA F-Class Fullbore Rifle Mid-Range Nationals
The new NRA F-Class Fullbore Rifle Mid-Range National Championships will be hosted by the Port Malabar Rifle and Pistol Club located in Palm Bay, Florida, October 10-13, 2024.
Similar to the Long-Range Nationals, the Mid-Range Nationals will be preceded by a sight-in/practice day, and all individual competition will be pair-fired (two shooters to a mound) or Bisley-style (three shooters to a mound). In addition, the NRA F-Class Fullbore Rifle Mid-Range Nationals at the Port Malabar Club will be fired on electronic targets.
The course of fire for the Mid-Range Nationals is below.
- Day One: Three 15-shot matches at 300 yards with two convertible sighters followed by a four-shooter team match at 300 yards.
