Extar USA has transformed the EP9 platform into a new, lightweight 9 mm pistol-caliber carbine, and not simply given it a longer barrel.

Extar’s new EP9 carbine sports a 16.25-inch blacknitride-plus barrel, new handguard and top rail. Additionally, the weight while unloaded is five pounds, two ounces.

Overall length collapsed is 31.25 inches, and extended length is 35 inches. The EP9 carbine uses Glock-pattern magazines.

About the new EP9 carbine, the company said “the EP9 Carbine accomplishes a weight and recoil combination rarely achieved.”

The EP9 carbine is fed using Glock-pattern magazines, so the same magazine and ammunition can function in your pistol and your rifle. In addition, you can use Extar's own 9 mm Glock-pattern magazines.

Overall height is 7.9 inches and overall width is two inches.

For the EP9, Extar recalculated and reformulated bolt mass and spring rate for the increased back pressure longer barrels create. The end result is a carbine that shoots just as softly as the EP9 pistol. Additionally, Extar's Dynamic Mass Bolt eliminates bolt bounce for a safer, smoother-running pistol-cailber carbine. This is achieved by adding a separate weight to the top of the bolt.

The Extar EP9 carbine also features standard AR-15 grip, stock, safety and trigger compatibility.

As mentioned, with a weight of five pounds, two ounces, while unloaded, the EP9 carbine should provide a speed-and-handling advantage for competitive shooters, especially multigun disciplines.

MSRP: $499. The Extar USA EP9 carbine is available for purchase directly to consumers at extarusa.com.
