The Krieghoff 2023 Gun of the Year honors a Native American hunting tradition. Named “Buffalo Jump” for the cliffs that played a vital part in Native American hunting, this K-80/S engraved by Creative Art features historic hunting scenes rendered in fine detail.
The Krieghoff K-80/S “Buffalo Jump” captures the dramatic scenes of a vital part of Native American history set in the prairies of the Wild West. Krieghoff congratulates Alamo Sporting Arms of Boerne, Texas, on commissioning this one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
Native American symbols adorn the “Buffalo Jump” receiver top, and the finale of a successful hunt covers the receiver bottom, where bison charge off the cliff’s edge to the ground below. Also, the hunters process the bison and use every part to feed, clothe and shelter their families.
More from Krieghoff about the 2023 Gun of the Year: “Creative Art places you in the hunt so realistically you can feel the thundering of hooves and the adrenaline of the hunt. The receiver sides of the K-80/S portray the Native American braves driving the bison towards the ‘Buffalo Jump.’ Each hunter displays their expert horsemanship as they charge on their mounts toward the gathering herd. Some ride reinless while releasing arrows and waving their bows to direct the herd to the cliffs. Caught up in the frenzy, one horse rears wildly, his skilled rider maintains focus and charges forward. A wizened Chief and young brave supervise the hunt across both the expanded side plates on each side of the receiver.”
Each year, Krieghoff selects an iconic theme for the Gun of the Year to be engraved by some of the best European Master Engravers. The company then reveals the year’s “Gun of the Year” at the IWA Outdoor Classic in Nuremberg, Germany.
