John Wilson Wins 2024 NRA National High Power Rifle Long-Range Title

With a score of 1241-73X, John Wilson wins the Tompkins Trophy and NRA High Power Long-Range title at Camp Atterbury, Ind., on Sunday, Aug. 18.

After the penultimate day of the NRA National High Power Rifle Long-Range Championships on Sunday, August 18, we have an overall winner—John Wilson. He landed this year’s NRA High Power Long-Range title and the Tompkins Trophy with a score of 1241-73X. The match was held at Camp Atterbury, Indiana, beginning on Friday, August 16, and ending today, Monday, August 19.

Hailing from Ankeny, Iowa, Wilson’s score also garnered him the High Military Veteran title. Additionally, his score was one point ahead of the runner-up. He also won the Leech Cup Match with a score of 199-14X, claiming victory in the shoot-off with a score of 100-5X.

Wilson was shooting an Eliseo Universal Match Rifle chassis chambered in 6.5 EL/MO and .308 Win.

“The best shooters in the country showed up to Camp Atterbury this year, and it was an honor to shoot with them,” Wilson said.

Coming in second place in the 2024 NRA High Power Rifle Long-Range aggregate was Amanda L. Elsenboss of Woodbury, Connecticut, who walked away from the match with a score of 1240-62X. Not only that, Elsenboss landed at the top of the Remington Trophy Match leaderboard with a score of 199-12X, winning a shoot-off with 98-6X.

Ranking third in the aggregate was John Friguglietti of Lincolnton, North Carolina, who posted a score of 1240-60X. In addition, Friguglietti picked up the High Palma Rifle title, along with the Bert Rollins Trophy. Not only that, he won the Edward D. Andrus Memorial Trophy Match with a score of 199-9X, as well as the Palma Individual title with 449-25X and the Sierra Trophy Match with 796-41X.

As for High Service Rifle, the honor and the Billy C. Atkins Trophy goes to Jonathan E. O’Neal of Auburn, Georgia, who finished the match with a score of 1217-49X. O’Neal also landed the Farr Trophy with a score of 193-8X, along with runner-up in the Palma Individual Match with 449-23X. He also claimed the Service Rifle Aggregate title with 768-26X.

Also among the individual honors included Phillip R. Crowe of Cullman, Alabama, picking up the Mustin Trophy Match victory with a score of 200-14X. He won the shoot-off with 99-8X.

This year’s Wimbledon Cup victory went to Morgan Dietrich of Ankeny, Iowa, who posted a score of 199-11X and 99-3X in the shoot-off.

A competitor from the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, Staff Sgt. Jarrod McGaffic, won the Canadian Cup Match with a score of 707-39X.

The Porter Trophy win went to an Army National Guard competitor, Maj. Samuel K. Freeman of Hendersonville, North Carolina. He posted a score of 193-4X.

The Herb “Doc” Aiken Memorial Trophy Match victory was secured by Joseph F. Bakies of Lima, Ohio, with a score of 199-9X.

In the team matches, the Roumanian Trophy winner was a U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit team with a score of 784-38X, appropriately named the USAMU team. Team members included Staff Sgt. Lee Bahten, Staff Sgt. Shane Butler, Staff Sgt. Benjamin Cleland, Staff Sgt. Jarrod McGaffic, and team captain Spc. Adam Fitzpatrick and team coach Sgt. 1st Class Alexander Deal.

Team USAMU also picked up the Herrick Trophy Team Match victory with a score of 792-28X.

The 2024 NRA National High Power Long-Range Championships will continue until Monday, August 19, with the conclusion of the Palma Trophy Team Matches.
