USA Shooting trapshooter Will Hinton, a Paris 2024 Olympian, topped the podium after finding victory in the Men’s Trap final at the 2025 International Shooting Sports Federation World Cup in Lima, Peru, on April 20, marking his first individual international gold medal.
“I am ecstatic,” Hinton, a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit said. “I am pretty excited.”

Hinton walked away from the Men’s Trap final as the winner after shattering 47 clay targets of 50 possible. The Men’s Trap event runner-up, Mauro De Filippis of Italy, finished with 42 of 50 targets.
Now a seven-time ISSF World Cup medalist, Hinton earned his first individual international medal only two weeks ago at the ISSF World Cup in Buenos Aires. Now doubling his individual medal count with the gold-medal victory in Lima, Hinton is steadily climbing the international shooting ranks.
“I have been doing a lot of training, but confidence is a big part of the game,” Hinton, a Dacula, Georgia, native said. “I knew if I could gather that, then it would come to me and I could roll with it.”
A 2023 Pan American Games team member, Hinton made his Olympic debut last summer at the Paris 2024 Summer Games. His victory at the 2025 Lima World Cup boosted the U.S. medal count to seven, solidifying the Team USA’s position as the top-ranked nation in gold medals.
“We knew that we were going to have a good chance at getting a lot of medals,” Hinton said. “We did a lot of finals training prior to coming down here and I would say that we did fairly well.”
Earlier during the competition, Team USA’s Sagen Maddalena, a Paris 2024 Olympic medalist, claimed gold in the Women’s 50m Rifle 3-Position event. The Lima World Cup marked Maddalena’s return to international competition following the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Also a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, she had taken a break from shooting after the Olympics, which made her triumphant comeback all the more remarkable.
The U.S. skeet team also had a standout performance at the 2025 ISSF Lima World Cup, earning five medals. U.S. Women’s Skeet athletes swept the podium with Kim Rhode claiming gold, Sam Simonton earning silver and Dania Vizzi taking third place and the bronze medal. Not only that, Dustan Taylor topped the podium in Men’s Skeet with a gold-medal-winning performance, marking his first individual ISSF medal. In addition, Christian Elliott shared the podium with Taylor after earning the silver medal.
