Hillsdale Action Shooting Team Wins SASP College National Centerfire Optic Title

The Hillsdale College Action Shooting Team captured first place in the Centerfire Optic division at the 2024 SASP College Nationals.

The Hillsdale Action Shooting Team earned first place in the Centerfire Optic division, along with several other honors at the 2024 SASP College Nationals, held at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park in Talladega, Ala., March 8-10.

The Hillsdale Action Shooting Team earned several accolades at the 2024 Scholastic Action Shooting Program’s College Nationals, conducted at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park in Talladega, Alabama, March 8-10, securing a first-place finish in the Centerfire Pistol Optic division, along with second and third place in the Centerfire Pistol division, plus second and third place in the 1911 division.

This is the Hillsdale Action Shooting Team’s third year competing in the event.

Hillsdale topped the Centerfire Pistol Optic division with a score of 191.08, more than 10 seconds ahead of the runner-up, the University of Arizona WildGats from Tucson, Arizona.

Since 2019, Springfield Armory has sponsored the Hillsdale Action Shooting Team, providing firearms such as 1911 DS Prodigy and Echelon pistols, plus equipment and access to training with pro shooter Rob Leatham.

 

As for the Centerfire Pistol division, Hillsdale posted scores of 217.7 and 220.86 to earn second and third place on the leaderboard.

In 1911 Pistol division, Hillsdale scored 188.69 and 207.87 to take second and third place.

Individual shooters on the Hillsdale Action Shooting Team also earned high honors. Among the men, Zech Steiger placed first in the Centerfire Optic division, second place in the 1911 division and third place in the Centerfire division. Adam Bentley finished third in the Centerfire Optic division. Additionally, Eli Hudson placed third in the 1911 division.

Among the Hillsdale women shooters, Kayla Mullin placed third in the Ladies 1911 division and Christina Lewis was third in the Centerfire Pistol division.

“We are very happy with the results. Hillsdale College continues to make a name for itself in the competitive shooting world because our students are dedicated and talented,” Adam Burlew, Hillsdale’s head action shooting coach said.

The Hillsdale College Action Shooting Team practices at the Ailes Action Shooting Range at the John Anthony Halter Center Shooting Sports Education Center in Hillsdale, Michigan. The range, completed in 2022, features four 30-yard pistol bays, a 40-yard pistol bay and a 100-yard rifle range.

“Interest in the competitive shooting sports is growing all across the country, and I think our students’ repeated success in them makes Hillsdale College an important force in their development and popularity,” Rich Péwé, Hillsdale’s chief administrative officer said. “This success is due to the hard work and commitment of the coaches and team, the new Ailes Action Shooting Range and Springfield Armory’s strong, continued support.”

Springfield Armory has been a sponsor of the Hillsdale Action Shooting Team since 2019, providing firearms such as 1911 DS Prodigy and Echelon pistols, equipment and access to training with the legendary Rob Leatham, who is a 24-time national and seven-time international pistol-shooting champion.
