On Thursday, February 21, West Virginia University rifle team senior Ginny Thrasher (Springfield, VA) received dual honors at the GARC (Great American Rifle Conference) championship banquet in Akron, OH. Thrasher was named GARC Shooter of the Year, also receiving the Outstanding Senior award.

This is the second time Thrasher has received this award, previously being honored as a sophomore in 2017.

Thrasher is no stranger to success, she was the first gold medalist of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games, as well as a two-time NCAA national champion and nine-time All-American.

"Ginny has had an amazing career, and these are two great awards to add to her already impressive resume," says WVU rifle coach Jon Hammond. "She's been a dominant shooter in our conference over her time at WVU, and its suitable for her to be the conference shooter and senior of the year in her final season."

Additionally, Thrasher was named to the All-GARC Air Rifle, Smallbore and Combined Score First Teams. This is the third consecutive season she has been named to each of the first teams.

After the banquet, Thrasher and the WVU rifle team went on to win its 10th consecutive GARC championship, giving the university a conference-best record of 13 total wins. Thrasher won her third consecutive air rifle title with a score of 249.4. She will graduate this May with five GARC career conference titles.
