This fall, CMP will host another session of the Junior Rifle Club, a weekly group that introduces firearm safety, marksmanship fundamentals, air rifle competition experience and life skills through fun instruction on the range.

Participants in the Junior Rifle Club are trained by former NCAA Division 1 rifle student-athletes, like Alana Kelly pictured above, who was a rifle shooter at Ole Miss.

Junior Rifle Club training is held at the Camp Perry indoor electronic air range located in Port Clinton, Ohio. The 10-week Fall Session will begin Tuesday, September 17. Additionally, an informational meeting for those interested in learning more in person is scheduled for Tuesday, September 10.

Attendees will learn more about three-position sporter air rifle competition.

No prior experience is necessary to join. Junior Rifle Club participants not only learn about marksmanship and shooting sports, but also character building proficiencies like discipline, self-control and goal setting—all with an emphasis on safety.

Each training session is led by former NCAA Division I rifle athletes, including CMP Junior Rifle Camps Manager Ryan Hinson, a former athlete at Morehead State University, as well as CMP Program Coordinator Alana Kelly, who was previously a rifle team shooter at Ole Miss. According to her collegiate bio, Kelly was the “top Ole Miss shooter for both smallbore and air rifle on three occasions.”

Fall 2024 Junior Rifle Club meetings at Camp Perry will be conducted every Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. There is no initial cost to join the club, with all equipment provided to students in the introductory weeks.

If you’d like to become involved in the Junior Rifle Club or have questions, please contact Ryan Hinson at [email protected] or call 419-635-2141 ext. 751.
