Team SK’s Erich Mietenkorte led the field in three divisions at the 2024 Iron Man Silhouette Championship on his way to being crowned the match winner for the fourth year in a row. The competition was hosted by the Hellgate Civilian Shooters Association at the Deep Creek Range in Missoula, Montana, from June 1-2.

Best described as “a grueling two-day test of precision marksmanship and mental fortitude,” the 2024 Iron Man Regional Silhouette Championship gathered competitors from across the country and from Canada to test their silhouette skills and endurance.

“Iron Man” aptly captures the demanding nature of the event, where competitors fire two 40-shot Smallbore Silhouette matches in the morning, followed by two 40-shot High Power Silhouette matches in the afternoon each day.

Mietenkorte secured his fourth consecutive Iron Man Regional Silhouette Championship by finishing in first place in the Smallbore Standard Rifle, Smallbore Hunter Rifle and High Power Standard Rifle competition, plus second place in High Power Hunter Rifle.

“SK Rimfire Ammunition was pivotal in my smallbore wins and laid the groundwork for centerfire categories as well,” Mietenkorte said. “Training with SK Rifle Match keeps my fundamentals solid and is the foundation for my success.”

More about Silhouette Rifle competition: “Metallic silhouette rifle shooting originated in Mexico, where they call it Siluetas Metalicas. It originally used live farm and game animals staked out downrange as the targets, with the winner being the first shooter to draw blood on the target animal and thus win the critter for their own dinner table. Since the live-target format was rather hard on the local livestock, the matches soon evolved into using animal-shaped metal plates, and rules required knocking over the hefty target to score a hit. The new all-steel format quickly became popular with local rifle shooters.”
