The USA Shooting shotgun team brought back an impressive seven medal haul from the 2024 Championship of the Americas (CAT) Games held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, March 1-8.
The trapshooters captured a total of four medals and skeet competitors earned three.
Julia “Lia” Nelson earned silver in Women’s Skeet by beating Chile in the final. She earned her slot in the final after shooting 115 of 125 in the qualification round. In addition, Nelson posted a score of 52 in the final.
The CAT Games marks Nelson’s first international medal in the open age category. An Ada, Minnesota, native, Nelson earned two international medals in 2022 in junior skeet events.
For her second CAT Games medal, Nelson competed with teammate Phillips Jungman in the Mixed Team Skeet event. The duo secured the gold medal by besting Mexico in the gold medal match by five points. The Americans shot a score of 43 in the final over Mexico’s 38.
Jungman, a Caldwell, Texas, native, is no stranger to international success. A Tokyo 2020 Olympian, he currently has five International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Cup medals, along with two ISSF World Championship medals. Jungman is also a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit.
Jungman claimed his second medal in Men’s Skeet Team with Jordan Sapp and AJ Nomina. The trio earned silver after landing a spot in the gold medal match by shooting a total overall qualification score of 212 of 225.
