Earlier this year, Franchi expanded its Instinct family of scatterguns with the addition of the Instinct Sideplate over/under shotgun. The Instinct Sideplate sets itself apart with an elegantly engraved, sideplate-style steel receiver, which is a nod to Franchi’s Italian craftsmanship heritage. The new SCS-MOS optic (Solar Charging Sight) is a pistol-mounted reflex sight that includes a solar panel to charge an internal rechargeable battery. With a housing CNC machined from titanium alloy, the SCS-MOS is lightweight at 1.3 ounces. For power, it uses a combination of solar and an internal rechargeable battery power supply system. U.K.-based Hawke Optics wasn’t kidding about the Wide View name for its three-MOA red-dot optic. In his review, Field Editor Chris Christian measured the Hawke red-dot sight’s window to about 1⅜ inches wide and almost an inch high. At 2.3 inches long and three ounces in weight, it’s a compact fit on rimfire rifles and pistols, as well as on pistol-caliber carbines. After using on at a Steel Challenge match, Christian said, “the wide window definitely helped in transitions and the bright dot was also an asset.
