Here are 10 of our top picks for guns and gear that have been announced this year.
Bergara MGLite Rifle
The new MGLite from Bergara weighs in at a svelte 6.7 pounds, which is light for a long-range rifle. Available in .308 Win., 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC and .300 Win. Mag., the MGLite keeps weight down by way of a carbon-fiber barrel, Omni muzzle brake and XLR Industries magnesium chassis. A TriggerTech Frictionless Release Technology trigger and AICS-style removable-box magazine round out the MGLite’s impressive list of features. MSRP: $3,229, bergara.online
Savage Impulse 110 Elite Precision
Savage Arms adds a long-range precision platform to its Impulse straight-pull rifle lineup. The 110 Elite Precision sits inside of a Modular Driven Technologies Adjustable Core Competition chassis, which includes M-Lok attachment slots and an ARCA rail fore-end. The guns are built with a button-rifled, modified Palma-contour barrel that measures 26 to 30 inches in length, depending on caliber. Seven popular long-range calibers are available, and the rifle feeds from AICS-pattern detachable magazines. MSRP: Starts at $2,649, savagearms.com
Taurus TX22 Competition SCR
New from Taurus is the TX22 Competition SCR rimfire, which builds on the original model with mods geared towards Steel Challenge. Two included optics adapter plates each have two mounting patterns to interface with popular red-dot sights. Upgrades in the SCR model include a TANDEMKROSS compensator with dual 45-degree-angle gas venting, along with a TANDEMKROSS Eagle’s Talon extractor for reliability during high-volume cycling. MSRP: $589, taurususa.com
Crimson Trace HRO Sight
After releasing a slew of red- and green-dot reflex sights last year, Crimson Trace has firmly planted its flag in the marketplace for all things optics. While there are plenty of reflex optic options to suit the demanding tastes of competitive shooters, the new extra-large Heavy Reflex Optic stood out at SHOT Show 2022 with its gigantic view window. Rugged enough for use with a machine gun, this sealed optic can stand up to the abuse that comes from competing at a match, especially multi-gun and action shooting. In addition to a two-MOA red dot, the HRO has a CT Motion sensor for quick activation when needed. The HRO will be available in the spring. MSRP: $479.99, crimsontrace.com
EOTech EFLX
EOTech’s new EFLX comes with either a 3- or 6-MOA dot, sports a top-mounted battery compartment that uses a standard CR2032 battery and attaches to pistols using the Leupold DeltaPoint Pro mounting footprint. The EFLX is water-resistant to 10 meters, has seven daytime settings, a night vision- compatible setting and an “ultra-bright” setting. Estimated availability on the EFLX is Q2. MSRP: $389, eotechinc.com
Federal 30 Super Carry
Federal’s new 30 Super Carry cartridge has the power of the 9 mm with similar felt recoil. The .312-inch diameter projectile carries the same energy as 9 mm at the muzzle, with better ballistics than .380 Auto. In addition, it can be chambered in smaller handguns. With a higher capacity and smaller frame size than the 9 mm cartridge, but with similar muzzle blast, recoil and terminal performance, 30 Super Carry has the potential to become a game changer. federalpremium.com
Champion FreedomBird Auto-Feed Trap Thrower
The Champion FreedomBird Auto-Feed Trap Thrower is ideal for shotgunners searching for more challenging target practice. With a cycle time under one second, shooters can create a flurry style of targets with either standard or midi clays (using the included adapter). Boasting a 50-clay stack magazine capacity, the FreedomBird can keep up with its own rapid fire. Shooters can also adjust throwing angles (10 to 50 degrees), as well as distance (70 to 90 yards) with the main spring tension adjustment. MSRP: $999.99, championtarget.com
Winchester AA Diamond Grade 20-Gauge
Since its introduction in 2020, Winchester's Diamond Grade line has taken its iconic AA shotshells to the next level. The new Diamond Grade 20-gauge offering is no different. Precision and consistency are paramount with the new ammo and Winchester calls the line its “premier clay target ammunition.” winchester.com
Kestrel KST1000 Shot Timer
Best known for its weather meters, Kestrel Ballistics recruited the help of 19-time Bianchi Cup Champion and 2021 PRS Production Champion Doug Koenig to build a shot timer that can pick up not only suppressed shots, but dry-fire “clicks” as well. Aside from being extremely sensitive, the KST1000 can even be heard by those who chose to wear both muffs and plugs. MSRP: $299, kestrelballistics.com
Magpul Gun Belts
Magpul adds to its Tejas gun belt lineup for 2022 with three new entries it calls the “El Cibolo,” the “El Delgado” and the “El Pistolero.” Each is made in Texas, and available in belt sizes 32 through 46 (even sizes only). Remember that you should buy a size up from your usual belt size for a gun belt. As for the buckles, they sit flat against the waist, which should help reduce printing while carrying. In addition, the buckles are removable and sport a brushed antique silver finish. MSRP: Starts at $89.95, magpul.com
