Nielsen-Kellerman, the parent company of ballistic tool builder Kestrel, has acquired the assets of Magnetospeed LLC, manufacturer of quality chronographs, target hit indicators and other accessories for the competitive shooting, hunting, recreational and military markets.

Since 2013, Magnetospeed has built chronographs, target hit indicators and barrel coolers. The V3 and Sporter barrel-mounted ballistic chronographs use electromagnetic sensors to measure bullet velocity. Other products include the T1000 Hit Indicator, and the Riflekühl chamber flag and barrel cooler. The company was founded 10 years ago by three Texas engineers working on a new type of chronograph. After building a crude prototype, Magnetospeed progressed to building a product that became a valuable tool used worldwide.

The acquisition of Magnetospeed by Kestrel provides many opportunities to improve the function of the chronograph offerings. For example, chronographs can now have a direct connection to Kestrel Ballistics weather meters equipped with Kestrel LiNK.

Magnetospeed, as part of Kestrel's Ballistics division, joins a company committed to producing accurate and purpose-built ballistics tools for improving precision long-range shooting performance. The Kestrel/Magnetospeed marriage should bear some nice fruit in the near future for precision shooters that are hungry for the latest gear.
